Prior to TestNav / NJGPA etc testing, please have test-takers check the following items on their laptops to ensure the best testing experience.
Most of the tech-related testing issues are related to these three items
- Dictation is on when it should be OFF
- Siri is on when it should be OFF
- Laptop needing to be fully restarted
Make sure the following features are disabled:
Dictation - Click the Apple in the upper left -> System Preferences -> Keyboard -> Dictation -> Turn Off

It may look like this if you have a newer version of MacOS. System Settings-> Keyboard, then toggle-off the Dictation option if it is on.
Siri - Click the Apple in the upper left -> System Preferences -> Siri -> Uncheck "Enable Ask Siri" (Note: If Siri is unchecked and is still interrupting testing, check the box, click enable and then uncheck the box.

In newer versions of MacOS, the option to turn off Siri is slightly different. System Settings -> Siri & Spotlight, toggle off Ask Siri if it is on.
Restart your computer:
- To properly restart, go to the in the upper-left of the screen, then select Restart...
.
When restarting your computer, make sure to uncheck the box "Reopen windows when logging back in."
