Many people want to remove the protective laptop covers from their Macbooks for various reasons. We hear many things including "they are ugly", "they are bulky" and "the wind blew them off".

The technology department discourages people from removing the laptop covers for ANY reason.

This specific cover was purchased and installed for compliance with the warranty and designed to only go on one time. People have tried to take the cover off or put them back on, and as a result, have broken their laptop screens.

Please do not take the covers off.

If you have already taken the cover off, do not try to put it back on as you may break the screen. Rather, please bring the laptop and cover to your school Tech Room and we will put it back on.

You are welcome to put stickers on the plastic cover, but nothing underneath the cover.

When you damage the screen to your laptop...

  • You may be charged for the repair. Damage as a result of removing the covers is not considered accidental.
  • You may lose your data if it is not backed up as the laptop is formated and 'wiped clean' during any repair.
  • You will be issued a loaner laptop while your laptop is being repaired which takes time to configure
  • Repairs typically take 5 - 10 school days depending on the volume of repairs
  • Once your laptop is repaired, you will need to come to tech to return the loaner and configure your own laptop again because it gets wiped out during the repair.

Ultimately, it is easier (and required) to simply leave the protective covers on no matter how unattractive or bulky they may seem.
