For more information regarding the Swank streaming service rollout, please see the email form Dr. Bachenheimer dated December 7, 2022.

The following instructions are geared toward those using Apple Macbooks and not those who might be using Windows laptops.

Furthermore, Swank tips and tricks from teacher feedback will be added to the bottom of this document as it is shared with us.

Q:  How do I use Swank?

A:  Open Safari.  (This is important). Swank will not stream through your classroom projector if you use Chrome. You must use Safari
  • Go to https://digitalcampus.swankmp.net/pv395082/ This is our specific District URL.(It is suggested that you bookmark this site).
  • Log in using your district email credentials.
  • Use the Search function to search for a movie that you want to use as a clip for instruction.
  • If Swank has the video in the catalog, it will appear and you can click "play".

Q:  How do I properly stream my Swank movie to the AppleTV?

A:  To project the movie to the AppleTV use the icon located in the Swank stream controls.

  • If you are mirroring your entire screen, you may only see a black screen and have no audio which might make you sad. You must disconnect from the AppleTV and stream Swank using the stream icon within the Swank application window.
  • The stream controls will not show in Chrome.  You must use Safari.

No

Yes - Use the icon in the Swank window to connect to the Apple TV.  This icon will NOT appear in Chrome. You MUST use Safari.

Tips from the Classroom

I'm able to connect Swank correctly but the volume is way, way, loud and I can't adjust it.

Some teachers have found that the volume can not be adjusted from the laptop or from the volume-control in the Swank video window.

  • To change the volume, use the projector volume control.

  • If that doesn't work, then the volume-adjustment on the speaker itself would need to be changed.

I don't see the streaming controls as shown in the image above.

  • Check that you are using Safari and not Chrome

I'm trying to log into Swank, but it doesn't recognize my account.

I can't remember what the District Swank URL is!  Its so long and convoluted!

  • The District Swank link is conveniently located in the pascack.org Bookmarks area.  Please note that the bookmarks are in Chrome which will not work properly with Swank. Copy the link into Safari to work properly.

I've signed in successfully before but when I sign in again it does not recognize my account.

  • Try closing Safari, reopening it and copy paste the district URL into the address bar again.

I've followed the instructions and have connected but the projector screen is just quiet and dark!

  • Be sure that you have selected the play button on the video.  If it was previously paused, it will not start to play until you select play.  It may appear that you have a problem when in fact you don't!

I want to have students watch a movie to supplement a topic we are studying, but I don't want to use several days of class to watch the film in class. What if a Student is out sick? Do I have options with Swank?

  • Yes!  When you find the movie on Swank you wish to use, you can click on "Share".  There are two options, get a link to share (that can be emailed) or "Copy LMS Link" which can be embedded into your Canvas page.  These links give your students access to stream the movie for free through Swank at home.  If you want them to watch a clip and not the whole film, it is suggested you indicate a time range.  (i.e. "Watch from 14:35-21:45".)
