MFA (Multifactor Authentication or 2-Step Verification) will allow us to further secure accounts and prevent them from becoming compromised.

These instructions assume that a) you are using a school-issued laptop and b) you are using an Android or iOS device (phone or tablet) for MFA.  You will need both devices to set this up.

On your phone: You will need to download an authenticator app called Google Authenticator. Google Authenticator is a free app that is available for any Android or iOS phone from Google Play or the Apple App Store.

Please be aware that Google has recently changed the icon for Google Authenticator from the drab icon on the left, to the colorful icon on the right.

Google Authenticator generates 2-Step Verification codes on your phone.

2-Step Verification provides stronger security for your account by requiring a second step of verification when you sign in. In addition to your password, you’ll also need a code generated by the Google Authenticator app on your phone.

This app does NOT tie your phone to our district nor does it give us any control over your phone or data.

On your phone:  After downloading Google Authenticator, simply open the app and follow any prompts. Setting up the Authenticator App on your phone should look something similar to the following... (but with the updated icon).

On your laptop:  If you are setting up district email for the first time, (either a new account or an existing account on a new device) you will be prompted to provide more information after entering your school email address and password.

You may be prompted to use the Microsoft Authenticator which will technically work as well as the Google Authenticator. If you already use the Microsoft Authenticator on your phone for other accounts, you can continue if you like.

If you are using Google Authenticator as suggested, you will need to click on the smallish link that reads "I want to use a different authenticator app" (see image below).  Click that link instead of clicking Next.

You will then be presented with a QR Code that you will scan with your phone using Google Authenticator.

On the Phone:  Select the little plus sign (+) and then select "Scan a QR code"

That should be it!  Enter the current displayed code from your phone, into the Enter Code field on the laptop, and click  Verify

Please note, the code changes every 30 seconds.
