Canvas courses may have a period designation after the name in the Course Tile. This is fine unless you have different periods in the same course which may cause confusion.
As a teacher, you are able to rename the course to whatever you like or simply remove the Period designation for clarity.
To do so, go to the course Settings. You can change the name in the Name: field which will display on the course tile. You can also change the Course Code which is displayed toward the top of the course. It is recommended to keep them the same.
Once finished, be sure to Update Course Details.
