1. Click on the Gmail Settings Gear icon
2. Click on See all settings
3. In Settings, go to Filters and Blocked Addresses
4. Select Create a new filter
5. From: Enter the email address of the sender you want to filter (your parent perhaps)
6. To: Enter your school email address or optionally leave this blank
7. Click on Create Filter
To help a filtered message stand out, consider applying the following optional actions
8. Star it
9. Mark it as important
10. Apply the label such as "VIP" or "Parent Messages"
10. Create a new label to apply it to filtered emails
11. Choose New label
12. Name the new label. In this example I named it "VIP".
Tip: Gmail presents labels alphabetically. So, if you want your new label to be at the top where it is most visible, consider giving it a name starting with the letter A, put a # in front of the name or even an emoji!
So, instead of VIP as shown in the example below, perhaps "A VIP", "#VIP" or "?VIP" would be a better choice.
13. Click Create when ready
14. Verify that your settings are set correctly and that the new label is applied. If everything looks good, click Create Filter
If everything was set correctly, anytime an email is sent to this fictional school account from the fictional parent email address, it would be 1) marked as important, 2) given a Star in the inbox and 3) given a label VIP
